American football in Brazil was born when teenagers adapted the sport to the beach, avoiding having to purchase equipment, in favor of the beach sand to lessen the strength and speed of impact when tackling.
From that point on the sport persisted, starting to grow even more in the end of the 80’s with the implement of cable TV, game transmissions and the boom of spectators. From this days the sport evolved from the beach beginning, still played on this days in some states, to equipped version as premier version.
At the begining, AFAB (Associacao De Futebol Americano Do Brasil) was was chosen by state organizations as Brazil’s leading entity of the sport.
Since March 2013, AFAB change his name to CBFA (Confederação Brasileira de Futebol Americano) have proved his organization and showed this growth by being able to integrate in a single organization pretty much all of the most developed states of the country for Flag, Football, and maybe women’s football in the future.
