IFAF Americas Countries

Guatemala’s Football history dates back to 2000, when Tom Kelly, a former American football player visits our country and donates to the Rafael Landivar University equipment for 25 players and gives a two day clinic to all interested students. Months later the first football team in Guatemala was born –LOS TIGRES of Rafael Landivar University.
Years later, LOS TIGRES would become independent and the National Team that represented Guatemala in different international games being the first one against the Jaguares of El Salvador. After that a yearly tournament was installed called Torneo Cuatro Naciones (Four Nations) where Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua participated in various occassions.
In order to develop American Football in the country, the Asociación Guatemalteca de Futbol Americano (AGFA) was created and has been registered as a member of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) working since then to achieve its goal; “The growth and development of the sport in Guatemala”.
With IFAF´s support, AGFA has received donations of equipment, visits from professional players of different countries, as well as training/clinics for players and coaches. Today, new teams have emerged and are currently participating in the AGFA League. Also the first American Football Academy for Children and the AEFA project were created to develop the ground roots of the game in the country.
