Israel

American Football has been played in Israel in an organized fashion since
1989 when Steve Leibowitz and Danny Gewirtz decided to create a touch
football league in Jerusalem. Starting with 8 teams they embarked on a
journey that would lead to 5 leagues in tackle and flag football,
international success with flag national teams and the involvement of over
2000 athletes of all ages in Israel playing either flag or tackle football.

The AFI (American Football in Israel) is the parent organization of all
football in Israel, running leagues in flag (men, women and youth) and
tackle football (men and youth). With the help of the Kraft family, the AFI
has been able to grow from the original 8 to over 100 teams.

In the summer of 2014 Israel will host the Senior World Championships for
flag football in Jerusalem.

The AFI has a very special relationship with the Kraft family, owners of the
New England Patriots. Robert and Myra Kraft have been supporters of the
organization for over a decade, sponsoring the national teams, tackle
leagues and of course building Kraft Family Stadium in Jerusalem. Without
their love and support, American football in Israel would be far from where
it is today
