Thrilling climax beckons for European Championship as giants set to clash

Finland’s hopes of winning the European Championship on home turf were ended yesterday as they were defeated 21-14 by France in a game that went right to the wire.

That result means France top Group B, having beaten both Great Britain and Finland, and will therefore go on to play for the European title on Saturday against the team that topped Group A, Austria.

Austria, have been free-scoring on offense this tournament, racking up a 40-15 win over Denmark followed by a 41-3 defeat of Sweden.

Finland and Sweden will now contest the bronze medal position, with Great Britain and Denmark facing off for fifth place.
